[ He keeps tapping out something vaguely arrhythmic on the cover as he sits and goes on. ] Lots of science. I like it. We should be more of a thing more often. With the science and stuff. What were we talking about before this?

[ She shakes her head at him, the hand not in his hair lifting to make a gesture of 'who knows' before she lets it rest back on his shoulder. ] I'm not really sure what you're getting at with we should be more of a thing with the science and stuff. We were talking about how I look better here than I do anywhere else.

[ Just a sort of amused noise at first. ] Neither do I. [ It's totally not a giggle. Maybe a little more than a huff. ] You look better than everything else. Conversation solved.

[ Man he is just. He is so very drunk. It's amusing her in turn. ] Yeah? That's some compliment. I think I can go with that.

[ He is very drunk, yes. He'd been home for a while before texting her. ] Good, because, I'd just tell you again anyway. So it's good that you'll go with that.

[ She'd think she needs to talk to JARVIS about alerting if Tony comes home and just starts drinking immediately, but based on tonight maybe he'll just hit levels where he texts her instead of doing anything stupid. It could work, she supposes. ] Would you? Maybe I won't agree anymore so you do.

Now that's... [ He makes a gesture towards her that was probably supposed to be pointing his finger at her but... mostly wasn't. ] That's sssneaky. And underhanded. If you wanted compliments all you have to do is ask for 'em.

I can be extremely underhanded, something you're normally more aware of. [ She catches his finger with her free hand, twines their fingers together for a little bit. ] So if I were to ask for compliments right now, you would say?

[ Aww, that just gets a silly grin on his face for a moment as he regards their hands. Then he tries to use his hand to gesture to her, which doesn't work that well because his hand is connected to hers still. Oh well. ] If you asked for them right now, I would say that you were digging, and that's good because you're so smart, and then I'd say that I like your sneaky, and your jaw, and hips, and how you hang around and talk to Dummy every now and then and don't get angry when I do... This. [ He tries to gesture to himself that time and it still doesn't go any better, but he doesn't want to let go of her hand anyway. ] I could give you a lot of compliments.

[ Right at this moment she is having so much difficulty seeing how people ever find it difficult to deal with Tony while he's drunk because he's just being kind of adorable right now. Kind of very adorable, and tangled up with her a bit, and she's okay with both of those instances very much. They're very nice circumstances. And now he's even complimenting her, which granted she totally asked for but it's still got this weird warm feeling in her chest associated with it, because he likes her and tangible reasons are just good, she can understand tangible reasons for things easiest. Her smile is easy and light, laughing just a little bit. He can probably feel the tremors of it in her stomach muscles. ] You haven't done anything worth being angry at so far tonight. [ And very softly. ] Thank you.

[ He waves his hands again - both of them this time, since one of them seems to be occupied and he figures he'll try both of them to make sure the gesture happens at all. ] It doesn't usually go this well. This is going very well, actually. I blame you, personally. I think last time I was this drunk I blew up most of my house and had a fight with my best friend. That was actually most of the reason the house... Exploded. But I was dying so it was different. Not because the house blew up - I mean, I was already dying by then. So this is - this is going well. That feels funny, you should keep doing that, what are you doing, are you - you're welcome - are you laughing at me?

[ One of them is definitely occupied, okay, she's not letting go. She likes holding hands with him, it's good. ] Well you're not dying now. [ Or ever, if she has any say in it, okay. Never. ] I'm laughing a little, but not really at you. More at. Being happy.

[ He's not used to holding hands with people. He's not used to being this openly affectionate with people. Yeah, sure, occasionally, but not with any actual meaning behind it. Not that there's any particular meaning about this. ]

You're laughing at being happy? I mean, I agree, it's a dumb idea, who's happy? But people usually laugh because of happy. Happiness. I think. I'm not sure.

[ Yeah, she's actually not at all. She might seek it now that she has the option, but that she does have the option and doesn't feel self conscious and uncertain about it anymore is a really nice feeling. ]

We're happy. [ And she can be pretty confident about that too, also weird. ] Because of being happy, then. I just phrased it wrong.

We are? Both of us? [ It's asked in the same way that a drunken person asks another drunken person about something they've just said because it was something that they thought of but had previously been unsure of, and they need the added confirmation. He's known she'd been happier than she'd been beforehand, before him, but as to actually being happy? Unclear.

As for himself, he rarely knows where he stands with things at any given point. ] That was confusing. You shouldn't be so confusing, okay, I'm drunk. No more confusing.

Well, I am. [ It's a rather understated and self depreciating way to say what is, in actuality, a very important statement, because he's right, happier versus happy is a pretty big difference and for a while she was simply sticking with happier, too cautious to admit to happiness. But now - she's just happy. Right now, with him, and she looks back at the preceding days and she's been happy for the majority of them too, and it's good.

She makes a soothing noise and returns to petting his hair slow and sure, nods. ] Okay, no more confusing. I'll make sure to say everything very clearly.

[ He seems to consider the first part until she pats his hair again, at which point he then seems duly placated by all the 'confusing' things. ] Deal.

[ And he just sort of enjoys her hands in his hair again for a little while, but does add a minute or so later: ] I'm glad you're happy. Can't always tell those things. People are good at faking.

I'd shake on it, but. Wait. [ It's a little awkward, but she can do a sort of shaking gesture with their intertwined hands for just a moment.

For a moment she just lies there and hums, quiet and gentle but enough to vibrate in her stomach, but she stops when he adds that for a little bit, even if her hand doesn't. ] I'm not good at faking with you. [ Casual and light, and then she starts humming again. ]

[ He's amused by that, she gets another totally-not-a-giggle. But he also likes the humming. It feels funny, and it's loud. Louder when he lets his head roll further to the side and sits a little higher so he can rest on her better. She's a great pillow. ]

You're a great pillow.

[ She can't even believe how utterly hilarious that noise is, seriously, it's just - it's such a great noise. She smiles down at him, keeps humming inbetween speaking. ]

Yeah? That's good, I put a lot of hours of training into that.

[ shut up it is not ]

Did you? [ He makes a vaguely thoughtful sound, considering this. Then settles again. ] Time well spent.

[ it's delightful ]

I totally did. [ She's pretty sure actually she could fall asleep like this, if necessary. Him resting on her is surprisingly comfortable. ] Thank you, I appreciate your appreciation.

[ nnnnauahghghhh no it is not ]

Mhmmm. [ Is his only audible response, because the rest of his reply is in how he appreciates her pillowness and her humming and her warmth and how she's letting him stay here. He's not even considering that he's been still, just here, more than he probably ever has been, especially while drunk, so it's sort of an achievement of some kind. Probably. But he sort of wants to nap. And she's comfortable. ]

Her smile just grows at that response, at the way that he just stays here. He's still so rarely when they aren't both very asleep, and most of the time the reasons aren't good. She likes that he can be still with her, that he likes staying here. His question takes her off guard, tilting her head at him. ]

Do you mean right now or here in general, with you? [ A small beat. ] Though the answer is yes either way, so I guess it doesn't really matter which one.

He's not really thinking about the question when he asks it, and he's sort of surprised to get an answer. He was looking more for the answer to the latter than the former, the long term over the immediate, although he would have taken both, and it seems like both he has received. He nods a little bit, which isn't really an answer, but his words happen to clarify a bit. ] All in all. Not just now, but now included. But that's good. Good answer. I like it here. More. With you. And your pillowness.
